North Point, My Neighbourhood. Public Art at the North Point MTR
North Point, Hong Kong, 2001.
We love North Point. North Point, east of Wan Chai and overlooked by Happy Valley, is our neighbourhood. It oozes Hong Kong: British placenames, Cantonese shops and fashionable crowds in a hurry. In 2001, we were commissioned by the MTR, Hong Kong’s mass transit authority, to design public murals to commemorate the neighbourhood we love in the North Point underground station on the Island Line. We went to local schools and asked children to “draw the neighbourhood” and then made collages of their drawings and created vivid murals that pay a warm homage to our community.
